India is fast becoming the hub of fashion. Established designers and budding designers are working towards revolutionizing the Indian fashion industry through their innovative designs and designing technologies. Moreover, India has a rich culture. The country’s ancient art, embroidery, and skill still have the ‘fire’ in them to fuel the modern fashion scene.
Lakme India Fashion Week 2014
The Lakme Fashion Week 2014 showcased aesthetics at its best. It was a mind blowing show with top fashion designers smearing the audience with their deepest imaginations brought alive on the ramp.
Designers Payal Singhal thrilled everybody with her exclusive festive collection. Designers Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty showcased their androgynous and sporty collection. Anavila Misra, known for her dedication to Indian textiles and handloom, displayed an intriguing collection inspired by Mohanjo Daro. Anita Dongre’s collection at the show was alluring. Her bridal collection was irresistible.
Manish Malhotra stole the show at the Grand Finale, which is always expected to be something sizzling and extra ordinary. His exquisite bridal collection spelled luxury and wonder.
Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week 2014
Wills Lifestyle fashion week featured warm shades and fashion with the ‘oomph’ factor. The show opened with Tarun Tahiliani’s fiery color palette and powerful designs. Shilpa Shetty scorched the ramp for this designer.
Designer Vineet Bahl showcases a quite wearable collection at the fashion week with his ghaghra cholis, kameez, and palazzos. Rina Dhaka’s collection was quirky. She mixed texture, sheer, prints, and structure to create an eccentric environment during her show.
The show also saw a mix of classic and contemporary cuts and cool and warm colors through designer Kiran Ghosh’s collection. Raakesh Agarwal exhibited a fine blend of feathers and furs combined with dominatrix outfit. However, certain experts are of the view that his pieces could be a fashion faux pas at the next season. According to a few more experts, the collection was a bit low in practicality and wear-ability.
Anupama Dayal showcased a vibrant ethnic wear collection at the fashion week. Her styling and attention to detail were noteworthy features.
India Couture Week 2014
India Couture Week saw designers give their best shot. The show was a journey to the monuments of India from Rajasthan to the caves of Ajanta and Ellora and more.
Gaurav Gupta’s nature-inspired collection of jackets, sari gowns, lehenga gowns, and gowns was eye-catching. Anju Modi showcased ethnic collection with a dash of fusion and splashes of charcoal, rose, burgundy, and ochre.
Varun Bahl’s couture collection was inspired by flowers. He used chiffon and georgette fabrics, along with black crepe. Combining the beautiful colors of flowers with black was an alluring thing to do. It was a rose-and-black story at the ramp.
Away from the fashion weeks, Vizyon, a contemporary fashion label, has launched their Fall/Winter collection titled ‘Cocktails’ in Mumbai. It connotes eccentric folklores and old-world glamour in a modern form. The collection is about reincarnation.
The year 2014 was an exciting year for designers and shoppers. With one fashion week after the other label lovers had a vast choice to indulge in.
